| The future elites in a common Europe |
Vom 14. bis 16. Juni 2000 hatte der International Dialogue Berlin Premiere. Rund 100 hoch qualifizierte Studierende und junge Graduierte trafen sich auf Einladung der DaimlerChrysler AG und der Deutschen Gesellschaft für die Vereinten Nationen im Haus Huth am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.
Die Konferenz begann mit vier Keynote Speeches:
- Werner Sonne, Senior Korrespondent, ARD-Hauptstadtstudio, Berlin: „Will the continent still survive?“
- Dr. Christoph Zöpel, Deputy Minister, German Foreign Ministry, Berlin: „The future Europe from a German point of view“.
- Ambassador Dr. Istvan Gyarmati, Vice-President East-West-Institute, New York: “The role of elites in managing conflicts in Europe”.
- Bernard Vergnes, Chairman Microsoft Europe, München: “Demands future elites must fulfill for multinational enterprises in a common Europe”.
Anschließend hörten die Teilnehmer zunächst Impulse Lectures und diskutierten dann in fünf Workshops über internationale, politische, ökologische, soziale und wirtschaftliche Entwicklungen.
- Transborder cooperation and the role of the UN-System and Human Rights
- Human resources in a common Europe
- Economics, technology and services
- Environment
- Science, the exchange of information and new media.
Die Workshops bestimmten Sprecher, die ihre Ideen und Lösungsansätze zu den globalen Problemen in den fünf Themenfeldern im Plenum präsentierten.
